President's Message

     From The President......

First of all, let me say it has been a while since you heard from me and for that I am sorry. I was visiting with one of our members a few weeks ago and explained that I had written a message to you all not all that long ago. By the way, I was eloquent, but when I went to save it, I accidently deleted it. Kind of like the old excuse,” my dog ate my homework”, except my computer gobbled it up. I tried to write it again but it just wasn’t there. I know, pretty lame excuse but I’ll try to be better from here on out.

So here we are, heading into a critical time of year with lots of events for the chapter and the region. Most of you know what they are, but let’s look at the critical ones. Next up is the North Central Regional Conference. Scheduled for April 12-14 in Duluth. I am looking forward to a big contribution from our chapter members as both attendees and exhibitors. After all, Big “D” is part of who we are, so let’s put up a big number! See you there!

Next, we have EXPO on April 24th! The exhibit hall is practically full and will be shortly. A special thanks to our EXPO Event sponsors for their support. What does this mean to everyone else? COME TO EXPO!! Attend, learn, network and have FUN!! Our EXPO event committee has done a fabulous job so please don’t miss it!

Awards Banquet. It’s from 4:30-8;30 on May 15th in the Wabasha Street Caves in St. Paul. Once again, the committee putting this together has been so creative and they need your attendance to make this the kind of Awards Banquet we used to have! Since it’s our 60th (more later), let’s have the largest turnout ever! Great venue, great food and an evening full of surprises! Come on everyone, sign-up and I’ll see you there!!

Golf Outing. Sign-up is underway. Always fun! Always well planned! May 31st.

It is with a great deal of excitement for me that we are ever closer to our 60th Anniversary Celebration! Mark your calendars for September 20, 2018. We have such a rich heritage as a chapter and it is become so evident to me how rich it is. The planning committee has begun to look through all of the archived documents, awards, rosters, photos and other memorabilia and it is truly nostalgic. One thing that has struck me is the Charter Members, their names on a document so many years ago. Did they know the tradition would continue for 60 years? Probably not. Let’s look at a few things going on when we were founded; early that year 14-year-old Bobby Fischer won the US Chess Championship! Elvis was inducted into the US Army!  The San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8–0 at San Francisco's Seals Stadium, in the first Major League Baseball regular-season game ever played in California! Have Gun, Will Travel debuted……on the radio! Not to mention the Cold War was in full swing. So basically, here we are 60 years later with a lot in common and plenty to be thankful for, yet so much has changed. I can’t wait to celebrate that, the Charter Members vision and all of you who have chosen to carry it on for so long. The Charter was written on February 15, 1958…….Congratulations on 60 years Mpls-StP Chapter, here’s planning on many, many more!!

    Later,

    Andy Garner, CSI, CDT
